Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 23, 2025  ·  macOS App

Introduction

maDNSer ("the App", "we", "our") is a macOS application for managing Dynamic DNS (DDNS) records. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and — crucially — what never leaves your device.

We built maDNSer with a privacy-first design. There are no user accounts, no registration requirements, and no telemetry of any kind.

Information We Do Not Collect

maDNSer never collects, stores remotely, or transmits any of the following:

Personal identifiers Names or email addresses Device identifiers IP address logs Usage analytics Crash reports (to us) Advertising IDs Location data Keystroke or clipboard data
We have no server that receives data from your installation of maDNSer. We are technically incapable of identifying who you are or how you use the App.

Data Stored Locally on Your Mac

The App stores the following data exclusively on your device. It is never transmitted to us.

Storage What is stored Purpose
Keychain DDNS provider API keys and credentials you configure Authenticate with your DDNS provider on your behalf
UserDefaults App preferences (update intervals, provider settings, UI state) Persist your configuration between launches

macOS Keychain storage is encrypted and sandboxed. Only maDNSer can read the credentials it writes. You can review or delete all stored data at any time by removing the App and clearing its Keychain entries via Keychain Access.

Network Requests

maDNSer makes outbound network requests only for its core DNS-update function. It contacts exactly two categories of external services:

Destination Data sent Why
Your DDNS providers Your current public IP address + your API credentials Update your DNS records as configured
ipify.org No data — a plain GET request Determine your current public IP address
These requests are initiated solely by you, on your schedule, to services you configure. No other network requests are made. The App does not phone home to any Anthropic, maDNSer, or developer-owned server.

Please review the privacy policies of your chosen DDNS providers and ipify.org independently, as we have no control over how they handle incoming requests.

Subscriptions & Payments

maDNSer offers optional in-app subscriptions managed entirely through Apple StoreKit and the Mac App Store.

Apple handles all payment data We never see your card details No billing info stored by the App

We receive only an anonymous StoreKit receipt that confirms whether a subscription is active. We cannot see your name, payment method, Apple ID, or any other billing information. All financial data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Third-Party SDKs & Analytics

maDNSer contains no third-party SDKs, advertising frameworks, analytics libraries, or crash-reporting services.

No Firebase No Mixpanel No Sentry No Google Analytics No advertising networks No tracking SDKs

Apple may collect aggregate, anonymized App Store analytics (downloads, crashes) if you have opted in to sharing with developers in your macOS settings. We have no control over this data and it is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.

Children's Privacy

maDNSer does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because we collect no data whatsoever, the App poses no heightened risk to minors.

Data Retention & Deletion

All data associated with maDNSer lives exclusively on your Mac. To delete it completely:

1. Uninstall maDNSer from your Applications folder.
2. Open Keychain Access and search for maDNSer to remove any stored credentials.
3. Delete ~/Library/Preferences/ entries for maDNSer if desired.

After these steps, no data related to the App remains on your system, and no data ever existed on our servers.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

Given maDNSer's architecture — no accounts, no remote data — meaningful privacy changes are unlikely, but we commit to transparency if they occur.
