maDNSer

Dynamic DNS in your menu bar.

About

maDNSer is a native macOS menu bar app that keeps your dynamic DNS (DDNS) records pointed at your current public IP — automatically, on a schedule you control. It supports Dyn (dyndns.org) and DNS-O-Matic / OpenDNS out of the box, and is designed for people who run home servers, NAS devices, remote desktops, or anything else that needs to be reachable by hostname when their ISP keeps reassigning IPs.

maDNSer runs quietly from the menu bar. Once configured, it checks your public IP at the interval you choose and updates your DNS provider only when something has changed.

Frequently asked

Does maDNSer work behind NAT?
Yes. maDNSer detects your public IP via the api.ipify.org service, which works correctly regardless of how many NAT layers you're behind.

Can I use my own privacy-friendly IP lookup service?
Yes — the IP lookup URL is overridable via a UserDefaults key. See the support email for details if you need this.

Do you support [provider X]?
Right now Dyn, DNS-O-Matic, Duck DNS, and NO IP are supported. Beta Support for Cloudflare, Hurricate Electric/HE, and Namecheap are provided and we're looking for help testing those out. DNS-O-Matic itself can fan out to many other providers (Cloudflare, No-IP, Namecheap, etc.) — if you create a DNS-O-Matic account and link your provider there, you can use maDNSer with that provider transitively. We're considering native support for additional providers; drop us a line to vote.
